The Intercultural Classroom ties theories of intercultural communicative competence for world language study with practical resources for facilitating intercultural experiences and discussions in a classroom setting. Examples given are specific to Spanish, but the methods for creating these resources can be duplicated for any other world language. This resource was born from a desire to collect the study abroad experience and bring it back to U.S. classrooms, as much as might be possible. The resultant study provides windows of insight into a faraway culture, in this particular case the South Pacific seaport of Valparaíso, Chile. It is the hope of the researchers that this methodology for collecting stories might be replicated in other places and with other languages in order to continue building intercultural understanding.
The graduate program database consists of links to information about graduate programs in languages and linguistics across the country. The database can be downloaded and sorted by language, program, or state. This database is a work-in-progress and is not a definitive guide. It is not guaranteed to be error-free, nor to include every single program in the country. The majority of programs listed are at public institutions. Contributions, corrections, or feedback are welcome.
